Looking for Sharp – Geraghty wants to bounce back against undefeated English fighter
Declan Geraghty [18(4)-4(3)] wants to jump straight back in at the deep end and is targeting a comeback fight with Archie Sharp [16(8)-0].
‘Pretty Boy’ was last seen being dramatically stopped by Marco McCullough at the Ulster Hall.
Similar step up domestic defeats to Jono Carroll and James Tennyson were made easier to take by the fact both went on to challenge for a world title, but it was feared the McCullough defeat and the manner in which it was inflicted could prompt the Dubliner to call it a day.
That’s not the case and not only does he want to fight on, he wants straight back into competitive action.
The skillful southpaw is targeting Archie Sharp, who is unbeaten in 16 and deemed one to watch. The EU silver medallist most likely sees the English fighter’s WBO European rankings title as a route back into contention and favours that route over any form of rebuild.
“I am looking for a fight. I want to get back in there. Archie said he wanted the winner of me and Marco. For some reason it hasn’t materialized between them two, so why not me and him. We are both MTK so it should be easy enough to make,” Geraghty explained to Irish-Boxing.com before suggesting his sparring session with recent Sharp foe Jordan McCrory is proof he is a viable opponent.
“I did the Sean Turner job. I got up off the couch after months of partying and eating shite to spar McCrory, but I easily controlled the spar. I know it’s only sparing, but look how different we did in the ring against him.”
As Geraghty pointed out, the pair are managerial stablemates so making the fight if both are willing shouldn’t be hard – and the 28-year-old will accommodate Sharp in any way he can.
“I have no problem going to England to fight him. We can do it on a BT Sports Frank Warren show in his backyard if he wants.”
Geraghty didn’t go too much into what looked a heartbreaking defeat in Belfast last time out, but does feel he was somewhat unfortunate.
“I believe I was kinda of unlucky to lose to Marco in the sense I was comfortable and I think winning well until I got caught with that one shot.”
