Luckless Fearless deserves and needs big opportunity laments Breen
Feargal McCrory both deserves and needs a break through opportunity claims coach and manager John Breen.
The Tyrone favourite has proved himself an entertaining ticket seller since turning over in 2015- and has answered all questions asked of him to date.
The 27-year-old looked odds on to secure that coveted next level opportunity when he was catching the eye of Eddie Hearn on Ryan Burnett undercards just over a year ago.
There was also talk of American interest around that time and a Commonwealth title fight looked to be another possible break through route.
However, there remains an air of uncertainty surrounding the Coalisland native’s next step. McCrory is scheduled to appear on the undercard of Cathy McAleer’s Commonwealth title challenge, but Breen is keen to secure higher profile fights.
When speaking to Breen you get the feeling, McCrory, who travels to Belfast to train despite the fact he works in Tyrone and is mid building a house, is becoming somewhat disillusioned.
“Feargal is open to anyone and he is ready for anyone now,” Breen told Irish-boxing.com.
“The problem is we need to get him the bigger fights. Eddie Hearn was interested, but he has no one in Belfast at the minute. Feargal knows he would sell hundreds of tickets in America so maybe that’s an option. Maybe I can relay that to Eddie and get him on the Matchroom USA shows.
“I feel sorry for Feargal. He is training everyday, he has done all that has been asked of him, but he needs the next level opportunity now.”
McCrory is being kept busy by Mark Dunlop and is a regular on MHD Promotion shows, he is also the Irish lightweight champion and would have domestic Irish options.
However, the fighter who will return to super feather moving forward is ready to progress past domestic level suggests Breen.
“When Feargal fought Karl Kelly, which is domestic level, he outclassed him. He was brilliant that night. He out boxed, outfought and out punched Karl. Karl is a hard wee man and to be honest we were all a sad after to see him take that punishment. I told him after the fight his balls are too big. He told me he loved it, but I had to tell him it’s dangerous.”
