Bog standard! Warrington reveals Frampton game plan was devised on the toilet

A ‘bog standard game plan’ means something totally different in terms of Team Warrington.

It’s certainly doesn’t represent your average or run of the mill set of tactical instructions rather something quite the opposite.

Indeed for the IBF featherweight world champion a ‘bog standard’ fight plan was good enough to ensure him the best win of his career over Carl Frampton, as the tactics for that fight were devised by his coach and father during trips to the bog!

In the build up to his second defense set for Leeds and against Kid Galahad this week the champion revealed the unusual circumstances which his father Sean O’Hagan devised the plan to defeat the Belfast fighter, who was favourite going into the fight.

It might not please ‘The Jackal’ to hear, but O’Hagan studied him on trips to the toilet and it was on the throne where he came up with the plan that prevented Frampton from dethroning his son.

Perennial underdog Warrington caught the former two weight world champion early in the fight and dragged the Jamie Moore trained fighter into his kind of fight. As a result he eventually won on points, upset the odds and retained his title.

His father and coach got huge credit for the tactics he chose to employ although no one knew where that plan was devised until Warrington spoke to the Daily Mail this week.

“Not sure people want to know, but I’ll paint the picture for you,’ he said. ‘He were on the bog. Me dad, he come up with it on the bog with a pack of fags.

“That is when the lord of the plan is at his best. On the throne. In the build up to that fight, after a training session with me, he would go home, put the kettle on, pick up his iPad, notebook and fags and say to his missus, “Right I’m going to have 10 minutes with Carl”.

“He’d go up to the bog, sit there, flicking ash into sink at side, three or four he’ll go through, and come up with the tactics while watching clips of Carl. What a strange bloke, eh? All his business is done up there, always has been.”
