Tyrone McCullagh and TJ Doheny feud continues with social media slagging

The pair are both enjoying a short period of downtime following their recent fights but TJ Doheny and Tyrone McCullagh continue to land verbal blows on each other.

The Irish super bantamweights southpaws have developed a rivalry in recent months stemming from a call-out from McCullagh [13(6)-0].

Back when Doheny [21(15)-1(0)] held the IBF title McCullagh was keen to partake in the first all-Irish world title fight but this was dismissed by ‘The Power’.

The Sydney-based Laois fighter would lose the belt last month in a unification with Danny Roman while McCullagh defended his WBO European rankings title for the first time two weeks later.

Afterwards the Derry trickster admitted that he is still keen to face Doheny and suggested that the fight could take place on the undercard of Mick Conlan’s big Féile fight night in August.

Over the weekend, Doheny would respond with a thinly-veiled posting on social media – and McCullagh, a qualified nurse, would return the favour.

The slightly cheesy back-and-forth is the latest installment of the growing rivalry – although it would look as though Doheny, who has stated that he wants to return in a world title fight, still is not keen on a domestic clash.

Regardless, McCullagh is a good bet for the Féile undercard bill, promoted by Top Rank, due to his WBO rating and the fact that the organisation’s champion, Emanuel Navarrete, is aligned to Bob Arum’s outfit.
