Jono Carroll shows Tevin Farmer respect

Jono Carroll‘s Twitter feed and Instagram story may suggest different, as well as their heated first press conference last month, but the Irish fighter does have respect for world champion Tevin Farmer.

‘King Kong’ and the man he challenges for the IBF super featherweight featherweight world title in Philadelphia on Friday March 15th have shared verbals galore on social media.

Both have questioned each others’ personality and in-ring performance levels during some strong verbal sparring.

However, when pushed on the matter, all-action southpaw Carroll [16(3)-0-1] admitted he does respect his slick opponent who will be making a third title defence in just over seven months.

“Honestly any man that fights for a world title you have to respect him,” Carroll said matter-of-factly.

“Listen he is the defending champion he has the belt so you can’t take anything away from him. Anybody at that level you have to respect and I respect what he has done in the boxing game.”

“He has never had anything easy in life either he has done things the hard way and I have to respect that about a man. Plus this poxy game it’s not an easy sport. I have to respect him as a fighter, of course.”

The bout has been billed as a bull versus matador clash and the challenger has stated he is coming to walk through a fighter with a stoppage win over Irish opposition in James Tennyson.

Yet, Carroll suggests that’s more fighting talk than what his actual approach to the fight at the Liacouras Center will be.

The 26-year-old, who like Irish world champions Katie Taylor and TJ Doheny is a Matchroom fighter, says he knows he will have to be tactically aware and diverse against the technically proficient world champ.

Carroll predicts he will have to and will show his range of skills against Farmer [28(6)-4(2)-1] in the massive DAZN-broadcast world title fight.

The Marbella-based man outlined how “it’s not like I thinking I am going to have to go in here and fuck him up. I know I have to be smart and technical.”

“I can’t be a one trick pony in this fight. There are going to be many times where I need to fight, many times I am going to need to box and many times I am going to have to use my head.”

“There are going to be loads of things I am going to need to be able to do in this fight. I just believe this is all coming at the right moment for me.”

“Like I said before I am a real believer in the law of attraction and everything I have done has lead up to this point,” he continues before advising fans to tune in.

“I just feel ready for it now. I am truly ready. It’s going to be amazing don’t miss it.”
