Volante fight is “what boxing needs” claims Katie Taylor
It’s the best versus the best and exactly the kind of fight boxing needs says Katie Taylor [12(5)-0] of her next outing.
The IBF and WBA world lightweight champion gets to add a third belt to her world title collection when she takes on WBO champ Rose Volante in Philadelphia on Friday March 15th at the Liacouras Center.
It’s champion versus champion and the winner will be one win away from undisputed success – with WBC champ Delfine Persoon. being the final piece of the jigsaw.
However, it’s not just a good fight for the three-belt hopefuls, according to Taylor it’s a bout that boxing needs and one the fans should rejoice in.
“This is exactly what boxing needs: the best fighting the best. I can’t wait to showcase my skills again,” said Taylor, making a point after her Brazilian opponent finally agreed to share the ring with her having seen a proposed December bout fall through.

Unlike main event fighter Jono Carroll, who challenges IBF super featherweight champion and home favourit Tevin Farmer for his belt, Taylor hadn’t too much to say at the top table.
Volante [14(8)-0] did not attend the press conference, instead staying in Brazil to train. Indeed, the Portugeuse-speaker was unlikely to be engaging in any heated back-and-forths with Taylor.
And so, the Brian Peters-managed star just reiterated her undisputed dream.
“I never really have a lot to say but it’s great to be here in Philadelphia, such a great fighting city and I can’t wait for March 15th to have the chance to unify the division again and go one step closer to becoming the undisputed champion, which has always been my ultimate goal.
“Thank you so much to DAZN and Eddie Hearn and Matchroom for making these fights happen.”
