“DONE DEAL” – Eddie Hearn reveals details of Roman-Doheny Unification Fight
Promoter Eddie Hearn doesn’t plan to hang around with TJ Doheny [21(15)-0].
The Portlaoise super bantamweight defended his IBF title for the first time last night, stopping Ryohei Takahashi at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in the eleventh round.
A unification with WBA champ and new Matchroom stablemate Danny Roman [26(10)-2(0)-1] had been proposed from the moment Doheny linked up with Hearn and ‘The Power’ was joined in the ring by the Mexican-American immediately after his win.
The pair are both keen on the fight and share an obvious respect for each other so a prolonged period of negotiations are not expected and it seems that the fight will take place soon.
Indeed, Hearn has stated that the match-up is already a “done deal”.
The English fight boss told IFL TV that “he’s going to fight Danny Roman next in a unification, that’s a done deal.”
In terms of date and location, it looks set to be a home fight for Roman in Los Angeles – although this should pose no problems for noted road warrior Doheny.
“I think it will be LA in April,” outlined Hearn.
Full details on the fight card such as date, venue, and undercard are expected in the near future.
A Saturday April 6th date has been reported.

The show looks set to be the first West Coast bill of Hearn’s Matchroom-DAZN endeavour.
Like Doheny, who dethroned Ryosuke Iwasa last August, Roman won his belt from the away corner in Japan, stopping Shun Kubo in Kyoto in September 2017.
However, at this time, Cuban maestro Guillermo Rigondeaux held the organisation’s much-maligned ‘Super’ title and was considered the champion. ‘El Chacal’ was stripped after his loss to Vasyl Lomachenko in December 2017 and Roman has been considered champion since, with wins over Ryo Matsumoto, Moises Flores, and Gavin McDonnell in 2018.
