PUNCH-STATS: Josh Warrington v Carl Frampton – COMPUBOX NUMBERS

While they are never a perfect system – and indeed Paulie Malignaggi would decry them as merely ‘two men pressing buttons’ – the CompuBox numbers from Carl Frampton‘s defeat to IBF featherweight champion Josh Warrington tell a story.

The Leeds Warrior retained his red belt on Saturday night with a whirlwind performance against Frampton at the Manchester Arena where he scored a unanimous decision.

The final tallies counted that Warrington landed 243 shots overall to Frampton’s 170.

This came from 719 punches overall from the Englishman to 602 thrown from Frampton, meaning Warrington also triumphed in the accuracy stakes to at 33.8% to 28.2%.

The pair threw and landed simlar numbers of jabs, with 38 of Warrington’s 186 fighting a home on Frampton’s face, while the Jackal popped off 178 with 26 landing upstairs and 7 nestling in the gut of the champion.

The differences however in power punches was stark, with Warrington throing 533 and landing 205 for a connect percentage of 38.5% compared to Frampton’s 137 landed from 424 thrown and 32.3% connect rate. Indeed, Warrington (95) landed TWICE as many big bodyshots as Frampton (39).

In terms of rounds, while many were close, Warrington outlanded Frampton in ten of the twelve stanzas, with his furious start being represented by 44 power punches being landed in the opening six minutes.

The eighth was ‘The Jackal’s’ most successful statistically.

Going into this round, Frampton was being outlanded 2:1 and the strong session did mark a slight change in momentum but it wouldnot be enough to stop Warrington, a deserving and classy winner.
