Frampton believes Warrington clash will be the fight Quigg grudge match should’ve been
The outcome will be the same, but the fight will be different predicts Carl Frampton.
‘The Jackal’ predicts Josh Warrington will play his part and make the Belfast fighter’s return to PPV action entertaining – unlike his first Box Office dalliance with Scott Quigg.
Despite a bad blood and entertaining build-up, Frampton v Quigg live on Sky Box Office back 2016 delivered very little in the way of in-ring excitement.
It’s widely agreed that Bury fighter Quigg’s desire not to engage in the opening six rounds was the main reason behind the super bantamweight unification being relatively boring as Frampton played defense for the last third to claim a relatively comfortable points win.
Frampton assures that his December 22nd BT Sport Box Office world title fight with Josh Warrington won’t be the same, believing the Leeds pressure fighter will adopt the approach which Quigg didn’t
The former two-weight world champion, who comes into the clash on the back of wins over Nonito Donaire, Horacio Garcia, and Luke Jackson, remains confident he will beat the world champion and claim the IBF featherweight title, but expects Warrington to play his part in an entertaining Manchester Arena hosted affair.
“I do believe in every single department I’m better than him and that’s going to be the real difference. It’s a big fight, but there’s not the animosity there that me and Quigg had. But I think it’s going to be a better fight,” Frampton told the Daily Star.
“When I look back on the Quigg fight, I’m disappointed with it. I won the fight and pretty comfortably, but it was a boring fight and we got a wee bit of stick about it.
“I wish it had been a bit more exciting and I think the Warrington fight will be the fight the Scott Quigg fight wasn’t.”
Meanwhile, Frampton has backed gym mate Rocky Fielding to raise a few eyebrows when the Stockport man faces two-weight world champion Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez in New York tonight.
“Canelo is an amazing fighter but Rocky is a big man who can punch very hard. So you always have a chance of a shock.”
