Fury VS Wilder Fight Preview
Tyson Fury’s mother hails from Belfast and his Father from Tuam. The Manchester Born fighter regards himself as Irish as does the World around him. Unlike many sports people in our countries history Fury could have fought for England. He chose to fight for Ireland and was an outstanding Amateur representing Ireland before he was forced out by an objection to his eligibility.
Now Tyson Fury is in a very different fight. Not to prove his Irish connection but to prove he is the best fighter in the world. Fury has not faced a real challenge since producing the best performance of his professional career to beat Klitschko in Germany. However, his training camps are going well and he looks fierce going into this fight. Both physically and mentally he looks the better of his opponent Deontay Wilder, who won the WBC title in 2015 to become the first American to win the Heavyweight World Title in nearly a decade. This is by far and away going to be the fight of the year. We can see how the fighters stack up with this infographic from Betopin
The Height Advantage
Tyson Fury has a two-inch advantage in height and reach over Wilder and is expected to weigh in approximately two-stone heavier for this fight. He must use this height and reach to keep Wilder at a distance from his body in the early stages of the fight.
We’re sure plenty of punters will be backing Wilder to win early as he’s stopped 99% of his opponents. However, the majority of these fights were with much smaller men with a shorter reach than Wilder. Fury’s reach gives him a firm advantage.
The Middle Rounds
Wilder is no match for Fury’s boxing acumen but he will undoubtedly be a threat to Fury in the middle rounds and the bookies reflect this. During rounds 5-8 Wilder is the shorter price to win which means that he is more likely to take Fury down in these rounds although we can’t see it happening. Fury is looking leaner and more aerobically fit than ever. In the middle rounds where fatigue is kicking in and it becomes a mental game, he looks like he will still be on form by the way his camps have gone. When Wilder fought Ortiz he barely survived the 7th round. If he hasn’t gotten to grips with landing punches on Fury by this stage of the fight he’s going to get desperate and make mistakes.
The Latter Stages
In the final three round of the fight its likely to be an evenly matched contest should they get there. Wilder has been forced to fight past round 7 only 6 times since turning pro 11 years ago. He has taken progressively longer to put fighters down in his pro career.
If Fury lets the fight get to the latter rounds we can see him being in good shape to win these rounds. His strength as a fighter is mental. Despite his love of fun outside the ring fury has rebuilt himself many times to success. We can’t see this fight ending differently.
Fury’s strength is mental. He is the most beguiling personality in boxing. In Belfast on Saturday night, the lineal champion charmed the amiable Italian Francesco Pianeta into submission over 10 forgettable rounds. And he has to be admired for the way he has whipped his body into shape after years of indulging himself in drink and drugs, to rebuild a career many in the business thought was finished.
Big-fight verdict
Fury is an outsider to make this epic comeback but we think the Irishman is going to take it to Wilder and dominate the fight. We expect Fury to win on points which will frustrate the American. It may not be the most exciting fight but we’re confident of Fury’s win.
