Fight ON! – Nonito Donaire and Ryan Burnett make weight for WBSS clash
Ryan Burnett and Nonito Donaire have both made weight for their big fight in Glasgow tomorrow.
The Irishman defends his WBA bantamweight title versus the Filipino legend at the SSE Hydro in the quarter-finals of the World Boxing Super Series.
At a very late, comparatively, 5:00pm weigh-in, both fighters came in inside the 118lbs limit, ending persistent talk that first reserve Paul Butler may have to step in.
Rumour had been abound that Donaire, who is stepping down two weight classes at the age of 35, was set to pull out of the fight as he will be unable to make bantamweight.
Donaire, who last fought at bantam in 2011, had laughed off the talk and looked in good shape as he hit his lowest mark in seve years,
The Asian was first to the scales and despite the aformentioned fears, comfortably made the weight, coming in at 8 stone, 5 pounds, and 7 ounces (117.4375lbs).
Then it was the turn of Burnett who came in one ounce heavier at 8 stone, 5 pounds, 8 ounces (117.5lbs)
While Butnett went to put on trousers and shoes Donaire would light-heartidly dance and interact with the crowd before a cordial face-off ahead of tomorrow’s clash.
