Darragh Foley to step in for big London fight

Following something of a frustrating fight in Glasgow back in August, Darragh Foley [15(8)-2(0)-1] will return to Britain next month.

It has been announced this afternoon that the Dublin light welterweight has stepped in to face unbeaten English talent Akeem Ennis Brown [11(1)-0] in London on Friday December 14th.

Brown had been due to face Johnny Coyle on the BoxNation bill at the York Hall in six weeks time but the Prizefighter winner has pulled out for unspecified reasons.

Blanchardstown’s Foley, who was already in the beginnings of camp in Boston, has agreed to step in to face his managerial stablemate.

The Sydney-based fighter is ranked #6 by the WBA and #15 by the WBO and will fight for the IBF European belt on December 14th.

Foley scored a big win over Steven Wilcox in March and then looked to enter the mix on this side of the world but saw his bout with Chris Jenkins, a late replacement for Willie Limond, halted and ruled a draw after three due to the Welshman suffering a cut from an accidental clash of heads.

Brown also had a fight with Jenkins end due to a cut however he was awarded a fifth round technical decision win. The Gloucester youngster also holds good wins over Freddy Kiwitt and Glenn Foot and is described as being something of an avoided fighter.

The card next month is headlined by Foley’s close friend Luke Keeler. The Dublin middleweight puts his WBO European rankings title on the line against former light middleweight world title challenger Brian Rose, while there is also a clash between Louis Greene and Larry Ekundayo at welterweight.
