Irish Cuban Luis Garcia to make comeback

The man that many in Irish boxing claim is the most talented they’ve ever seen in the flesh is to make his return to the ring.

Cuban light heavyweight Luis Garcia [15(12)-0] has signed a deal with Assassin Promotions and will begin his comeback on the Ray Moylette Homecoming show in Mayo on Friday December 7th at the Royal Theatre in Castlebar.

A year and a half since he last fought and 10 years on from arriving in Cork alongside Mike Perez and Alexei Collado, ‘El León’ will be hoping to finally make his mark on the sport.

Garcia strung together a run of impressive wins at the turn of the decade, defeating Jorge Olivera, Byron Mitchell, and Alexander Johnson but his career would stall. Relocating to New York, Garcia made a comeback in 2015 after four years out and fought twice more but has been out of action since last June.

Garcia has since returned to Ireland and is now living in Limerick.

It is intended for 30-year-old Garcia to be kept extremely busy as he seeks to regain ring sharpness an return to fighting shape.

A December 7th opponent will be announced in due course.
