Josh Warrington v Carl Frampton – Undercard Update

Carl Frampton challenges for a world title in Manchester this coming December and the bill at the Manchester Arena is starting to fill up.

‘The Jackal’ takes on IBF featherweight champion Josh Warrington at the 20,000+ seater arena on Saturday December 22nd and, over the weekend, the first batch of undercard fighters have emerged.

The big BT Sport card in Leicester on Saturday night featured Leeds flyweight Nicola Adams and, following her WBC interim title win over Isabel Millan, the double Olympic gold medallist was confirmed for the Warrington-Frampton card.

Nantwich heavyweight Nathan Gorman [13(11)-0] was due to feature on Saturday but the Ricky Hatton-trained fighter saw his contest pulled from the bill after his opponent pulled out at late notice. He too was confirmed for BT Sport Box Office bill during Saturday’s broadcast.

British middleweight title mandatory challenger Mark Heffron [21(17)-0] also won on Saturday night in a keep-busy and the Oldham fighter of Kildare descent will challenge champion Jason Welborn [24(7)-6(3)] on December 22nd.

Aside from the three fights above, numerous fighters have called for a slot on the card.

New Queensberry signing Caoimhin Agyarko, who debuts on October 20th, is keen for a slot, while Belfast welter Paddy Gallagher [14(9)-0] wants to challenge for the British title on the card. Johnny Garton and Gary Corcoran do battle for the vacant belt in two weeks time.

Frampton’s last opponent, Aussie Luke Jackson [16(7)-1(1)], has called for a fight with Isaac Lowe [15(5)-0-3] on the show but the English puncher is set to appear on the Wilder-Fury bill in L.A. on December 1st.

Dublin middleweight Luke Keeler [15(5)-2(1)-1] is currently preparing for an unspecified fight date in December and it would seem to make sense that this too is on the Warrington-Frampton card, while the order British super featherweight title fight between champion Sam Bowen [14(10)-0] and Scot Ronnie Clark [21(10)-4(1)-2] is consistently being suggested for the bill.

It would look likely that Frampton’s close friends and gym-mates Conrad Cummings [15(7)-2(0)-1] and Steven Ward [9(4)-0] will also feature.

Then there are a number of fighters that are part of both the Queensberry promotional stable and the MTK Global management outfit that will all be gunning for spots.

These include the likes of Liam Smith, Tyrone McKenna, and Gary Cully.

Further announcements and developments will emerge in due course – and whether or not the mooted Dillian Whyte v Dereck Chisora heavyweight rematch PPV is confirmed for London on the same date is also expected to play a part in determining the composition of the undercard.
