‘I’ve beaten better’-Frampton claims Warrington isn’t as good as old foes

Carl Frampton believes he has already defeated boxers who are better than Josh Warrington.

‘The Jackal’ challenges the Leeds native for his IBF super featherweight world title in Manchester on December 22 and goes into the fight confident he has beaten fighters that offer more of a threat than the belt holder.

Speaking in London at the first of a three city press tour the former two weight world champ, who has defeated the likes of Kiko Martinez, Leo Santa Cruz, Scott Quigg and Nonito Donaire, suggested promotional stable mate Warrington is stronger and more intense than some of his recent foes, but remains adamant among the list of fighters he has defeated there are a number more talented than the reigning world champ.

“He’s full of confidence at the minute,” Frampton said in London.

“He’s stronger than them guys (previous opponents). His work-rate is a lot more intense. ‘But I feel like I’ve beaten better fighters than Josh already, and that will be the difference.”

The 31 year old draw had previously said Warrington had a tailor made style for him, suggesting he could out box the come forward fighter.

However, on Tuesday he indicated it may not be that straight forward and revealed he will come into the clash armed with three game plans.

 

“I don’t think there’s such a thing as a perfect fighter. It’s about being able to exploit them, and I believe I will,” Frampton added.

“I believe we’ll be able to come with a gameplan, and as Josh said it will have to be a number of gameplans. He proved in the fight against Lee Selby he’s not a one-trick poney that people maybe thought he was. He can box a bit too.

“I’ll need to come up with maybe one, two, three gameplans. We’ll do whatever it takes. I start training camp on Monday, it’ll be a 12-week fight and I’ll do whatever it takes in camp to win the fight.”
