Sean McGlinchey secures comeback date
Almost 16 months on from his second fight, Sean McGlinchey [2(0)-0] will finally return to the ring for pro contest number three.
The Derry middleweight has endured a hellish time since last summer.
Illness saw McGlinchey forced to pull out of a Celtic Nations title fight with Ger Healy last October and his scheduled entry into Ireland’s Last Man Standing was scuppered when his licence was suspended by the British Boxing Board of Control.
A return on the JB Promotions ‘The Beginning’ card was next up but this too was shelved for the frustrated McGlinchey.
This morning, however, there was good news with it being announced that ‘Mummy’s Bhoy’ will trade leather on the big BoxNation show in Belfast on Friday October 5th at the Titanic Exhibtion Centre.
Creggan southpaw McGlinchey will return in a four rounder as he looks to quickly build-up his record and make up for lost time.
The well-supported Commonwealth Games bronze medallist had a hugely entertaining debut win versus Josef Obeslo last April and followed this up with another points win over ultra-durable British veteran Dan Blackwell in June.
An opponent for 26-year-old McGlinchey, who is now managed by Seamus Cunning, will be confirmed shortly.
The card next month is headlined by another Derry boxer, BBBoC Celtic super bantamweight champion Tyrone McCullagh who takes on English champ Josh Kennedy. Also down to feature are Gary Cully, Marco McCullough, Conrad Cummings, Sean McComb, Steven Donnelly, Padraig McCrory, Nathaniel May, and a BUI Celtic welterweight title defence from Jay Byrne versus Paddy Gallagher.
