Ireland claim four more medals at European Schoolboys/girls Championships

Irealnd claimed another four medals today at the European Schoolboys/Girls Championships.

James Donovan, John Fay, Tyler Meade, and Curtis Darcy all secured guaranteed bronze at the underage tournament in Bulgaria

But there was disappointment for Ryan Murphy, Joe Hutchinson, Michael Connors, and Patrick McDonagh who lost out at the last-eight stage.

Limerick’s Donovan, another from the top fighting family, dominated home favourite Dzhem Demirev while Dubliner John Fay boxed smartly to defeat reckless Belarussian Mikita Harbuz. Meade was then on top again durable Serb, Milo Tibic, and Darcy dominated against Romania’s Malyas Nagyos, the only surprise being his margin of  victory – an eyebrow-raising 4-1 split.

Ireland will look to guarantee a further five medals tomorrow on the final day of quarter finals through Martin Collins, Jason Nevin, team captain Cale Brennan, and Michael and William Faulkner, while there are a further nine fighters in semi-final action looking to upgrade to silver.
