Pauly Upton believes he can become the big cheese with Sky Sports risk
Pauly Upton knows that now is his chance and is ready to take a big risk.
The Belfast light middleweight will take on Matchroom starlet Ted Cheeseman [13(8)-0] on Wednesday Jun 6th at the York Hall in London, live on Sky Sports, and believes it could be his big breakthrough.
At 29 years of age and with a healthy 15-0 record, the former Irish light middleweight champion is confident ahead of his WBA International title fight with one of Britain’s hottest prospects.
While it could be considered a risk, Upton feels it a necessary one and outlined how “it’s a massive chance. These are the kind of fights you can really get up for.”
“In this game, nothing comes easy and that’s especially true when you don’t have a big promoter.”
“In order to get the big shots, you’ve got to take risky fights like this and hopefully it will pay off in the end.”
“They only gave us four-and-a-half weeks’ notice but I’ve been training and ticking over just waiting for a call like the one I got.”
Indeed, while many have been quick to label Upton a huge underdog, he feels he is being somewhat overlooked and is sure to test the 22-year-old hotshot.
Upton noted how “I know Cheeseman is my biggest test but I’m also his biggest test.”
“I deserve more recognition and hopefully after this fight, the public will start to notice me more.”
The West Ham ABC man believes that the ten-round title fight will be his big break and an opportunity to become one of the top names in Irish boxing.
The eldest of the fighting Upton brothers described how “I can only beat who they put in front of me and I’ve beaten everyone to date.
“Beating Cheeseman will earn me a top ranking in Britain and a decent ranking with the WBA.”
“I want a massive year after this fight and some shots at titles. Beating him will ensure I get those.”
