Peters promises Katie Taylor Homecoming – but timing must be right

Katie Taylor will eventually bring big time boxing back to Dublin according to her manager, Brian Peters..

Promoter Eddie Hearn has cried wolf in terms of a homecoming, much to the frustration of Irish fight fans, but Peters, who has heralded the Matchroom boss as the best promoter in the world, claims Taylor [8(4)-0] will be brought back to Ireland to fight soon.

Indeed, the man who guided Bernard Dunne during a golden era of Irish boxing, told the Independent.ie that the London 2012 Olympic gold medal winner was close to trying to unify world titles in Dublin rather than New York this Spring.

Promoter Hearn had all-but-confirmed April 14th at the 3Arena in Dublin back in January before an unexpected change just days later.

There were suggestions that Hearn remains somewhat sceptical after the Return of the Mack card he ran in Dublin back in 2014 wasn’t a major ticket success, but Peters claims the Matchroom boss saw a perfect opportunity to build brand Taylor Stateside and placed the Bray star’s unification lightweight unification clash with Victoria Noelia Bustos on the Jacobs-Sulecki bill.

“We were close to a Dublin fight,” he confirmed to Kevin Palmer.

“There was a lot of things going on with American TV. HBO and Showtime are in the mix over there and Eddie is keen to introduce her to different markets.

“It was a toss of a coin between Ireland and America this time, but Katie is already a superstar in Ireland and her profile is rising in the UK thanks to Sky and her promoter Eddie Hearn, so the plan now is to try and take her to the American audience.”

“We are hoping Katie steals the show this weekend and it is all about getting exposure in America,” explained Peters.

Hearn’s reasoning looks questionable at present, with Taylor featuring early on the bill tonight and will not be part of the HBO broadcast [but will be shown live on Sky Sports].

Dublin isn’t off the radar according to Peters and Taylor will fight in Ireland – but when the time is right.

“A fight in Dublin will happen, but we want to time it right. We want all the world title belts, we want to go home and let Katie fight in front of a home crowd and when it happens, it will be a massive event.”
