TV step-up set for Ray Moylette

Ray Moylette [8(3)-0] has secured a big fight and a TV date for next month.

Following a sensational debut year in 2017, the Mayo lightweight will make a step up on Saturday March 31st in Boston in what will be his sixth fight on the U.S. East Coast.

Following some verbal back-and-forths last year, a clash between Moylette and Irish-American lightweight Matt Doherty [8(4)-3(0)-1] at The Marina Bay Sportsplex in Quincy, Massachusetts.

The Salem slugger had been in the picture to fight Moylette back in September however this fell through and the resultant fall-out has built a bigger fight.

Doherty recently scored a win on a Murphys Boxing card in Melrose, outpointing Danny Morales over six, and will come into the clash sharp.

Islandeady’s Moylette has been back training with coach Paschal Collins at the Celtic Warriors Gym in Dublin and has recently been sparring with welterweight world title challenger Frankie Gavin.

It was announced yesterday that the bill will feature Golden Boy middleweight Jason Quigley [13(10)-0] who is returning from just over a year out injured – in which he relocated to Sheffield and the Ingle’s Wincobank Gym.

The Murphys Boxing/Golden Boy card will be shown live on ESPN, and Moylette will feature in the live broadcast.

No title or even the scheduled rounds have been confirmed for the fight yet, but it is believed that a regional belt will be on offer – either the Massachusetts State or the New England title.

Moylette’s manager Kaz Evans said that “Ray turned pro with us last March, within a year he’ll have had 9 fights and hopefully 9 wins. He’s kept active, he’s built a great profile in America, and has still had the chance to fight in Dublin, London and Birmingham.”

“He is working great with Packie Collins, and he is being progressed perfectly. He is being moved fast, forget about the fights he’s only been a pro a year, and we are already talking about titles.”
