TAKE TWO: Returning Keane McMahon ready for “second debut”
It’s like a debut all over again.
Keane McMahon [1(0)-0] takes to a pro ring for the second time this Saturday night in Waterford.
The Dublin welterweight debuted last May on Celtic Clash 2 but injuries and personal issues saw him forced out of the third and fourth editions of the fight series.
McMahon though has pushed through and will make his long-awaited return on the inaugural Ring Kings bill at the WIT Arena this weekend.
“To be honest with you, it’s like a debut all over again,” McMahon told Irish-Boxing.com.
“It really is, it’s literally like I’ve started all over again, it’s like a new chapter. I can’t wait to get in there and see how I get on.”
There’s a big change in ‘The Iceman’ who described how “it’s brilliant to be back, I’m loving training at the moment. I’m really enjoying coming to the gym, enjoying sparring, I’m just enjoying the whole buzz again.”
“The lay-off, when I came back I took a while to adjust, get back sparring, taking shots, hard running, but now I’m fit, my sharpness is coming back, and I feel great.
“It’s the best feeling in the world, being sharp, being healthy, and just enjoying life.
I’m always in shape, I always come in in shape, but mentally I’m in a different place. Even if things aren’t going right in the gym, I have the mental fortitude to push through it.”
“Everything’s falling into place now. I just want to get back in there boxing.”
Manager David Murphy has high hopes and big plans for McMahon, but the 23-year-old natural talent is just keen to get going once again before making big predictions.
McMahon outlined how “my manager is going to try and get me out four or five times this year and next year I can crack on towards a BUI Celtic title, but right now I’m just focusing on this fight.”
“It’s going to be like Dublin down there because I’m going to do a load of tickets for this.”
