World title hopeful TJ Doheny handed St Patrick’s Day fight

IBF super bantamweight world title mandatory challenger TJ Doheny [18(13)-0] will fight next on Saturday March 17th.

The Portlaoise puncher is the next in line for the red belt at 122lbs, and will stay sharp for this shot with a keep-busy bout on St Patrick’s Day in Boston.

Doheny will box on the annual Murphys Boxing St Patrick’s Festival card at the House of Blues against a to-be-confirmed opponent in an eight-round contest.

The Laois fighter claimed the mandatory position last month, dominating Mike Tawatchi in a final eliminator in Bangkok.

He is now primed to face champion Ryosuke Iwasa [24(16)-2(2)] of Japan, but will first stay sharp in Boston.

Also set to feature on the card will be Irish-American light welterweight Danny O’Connor while it is believed that a regional title fight for Mayo lightweight Ray Moylette against Matt Doherty will be announced tomorrow.

As usual, St Patrick’s Day promises to be a massive occassion for Irish fighters all over the world, with Belfast featherweight Mick Conlan headlining a card at The Theater at Madison Square Garden, while Dublin light welterweight Darragh Foley faces Steve Wilcox in a WBA world title eliminator in Sydney.
