Unbeaten former world champion calls for Spike O’Sullivan clash

Spike O’Sullivan is a wanted man.

Following a break-out knockout win over touted U.S. contender Antoine Douglas on a big HBO card last month, the Cork middleweight has found himself in the running for a fight with Matchroom star Danny Jacobs and even a rematch with WBO champion Billy Joe Saunders.

Now another one of the top names in the division is hoping for a fight with O’Sullivan [27(19)-2(1)].

Former WBO light middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade [25(16)-0] has called for a fight with the Celtic Warriors 33 year old, believing O’Sullivan to be the perfect opponent to help put himself in the world title frame at 160lbs.

While 29 year old Andrade might not necessarily know O’Sullivan’s name, the Mahon fighter made an impression on the American following his win in Montreal over Douglas.

The Providence puncher admits that he is not ready for the likes of Saunders, who looked stunning in defending his belt against Lemieux, but told IFL TV that he would like “the guy who was on that card, that would be a good fight.”

“The dude Sullivan or some shit like that, the guy who got the knockout win over the Douglas kid.”

“I think that’s a good action-packed fight for me. He’ll come in, he’s straight-forward guy, he’ll force me to let my hands go, I think it would be a great fight.”

“It’ll be a good step up fight for me as far as weight – I still think I need to put on a little bit more muscle so I can hang with them.”

A former top amateur, the 2007 World Championships gold medalist and 2008 Olympian claimed the WBO 154lbs belt back in and defended it against England’s Brian Rose. Plagued by inactivity, ‘Boo-Boo’ was stripped of his title and after claiming the WBA ‘regular’ belt off Dennis Hogan defeator Jack Culcay he has since moved up in weight.

Southpaw Andrade made his middleweight debut in October in New York, and the Rhode Islander outpointed the formerly undefeated Alantez Fox.
