Change of date for Carl Frampton v Nonito Donaire

Carl Frampton‘s next fight will NOT take place on Saturday April 7th as previously announced.

Promoter Frank Warren seemingly ended weeks of speculation just before Christmas when he announced that Frampton would take on four-weight world champion Nonito Donaire [38(24)-4(1)] in Belfast on April 7th – a date previously mentioned by ‘The Filipino Flash’.

This however was never officially confirmed, and this afternoon a change has been revealed.

The venue for the card, the SSE Odyssey Arena in Belfast, confirmed that the fight will in fact take place on Saturday April 21st.

The venue also confirmed that tickets will go on sale at 10am on Thursday January 11th via the usual channels.

While not confirmed yet, it is widely assumed that the bout will be shown simultaneously on BT Sport and BoxNation.

The clash will be Frampton’s second under his new team of trainer Jamie Moore, advisors MTK Global, and promoter Warren. In November ‘The Jackal’ outpointed Horacio Garcia over ten rounds to move to 24(14)-1(0).

The fight between the two former Fighters of the Year will not be for a world title, however should Frampton win he is expected to take on the winner of the May bout between IBF champion Lee Selby and Josh Warrington. This proposed fight is potentially the Windsor Park dream date for Frampton and would take place in the late Summer.
