Natasha Jonas warns she is done with Katie Taylor talk
Liverpool favourite Natasha Jonas says she is done talking about Katie Taylor.
Jonas feels her progression in the pro ranks is being overshadowed somewhat by the WBA lightweight World champion and is becoming tired of been questioned about the Irishwoman.
Considering they served up a famous Olympic encounter at the quarter finals in London back in 2012, the pair seem destined to meet again in what would prove a high profile pro fight – one of a number of potential fights with former amateur stars for Taylor.
However, Jonas has distanced herself from the Bray star in terms of weight – moving down to super featherweight – and has now looked to move further away from the shadow of Taylor.
Dropping to 130lbs has theoretically put any proposed clash on the back burner, but in turn lets its build into something even more special – yet still Taylor seems to be a subject the popular Joe Gallagher-trained puncher can’t escape.
Jonas moved to 4-0 at the weekend, stopping Katarina Vistica in the second round of their clash at the Oldham Leisure Centre – on a Black Flash Boxing card which also featured Belfast’s Ciaran McVarnock.
After registering what was a fourth straight stoppage victory the World bronze medalist seemed to take exception to Taylor related questions and warned that her Taylor talking is done.
Jonas told the Liverpool Echo that “I’m not answering any more questions about her because my career is becoming all about her and I don’t want that.”
“I’m trying to go down a different road from her at the moment but everyone keeps asking about her,” added te 33 year old before ironically bringing up her former amateur foe.
“I went out as normal, ready to get the win no matter what on Saturday. But part of me, after watching Katie, wanted to go out and make a real statement and I reckon I did that.”
