New Bray boxer joins Irish pro scene
In what looks likely to be the final pro conversion of the year, another Irish boxer has joined the paid ranks.
Bray middleweight Eddie Treacy becomes the latest fighter to ditch the vest in what has been a remarkable 2017.
National Novice 75kg champion earlier this year, Treacy has also boxed and won twice on the Irish semi-pro scene, and brings an aggressive all-action style to the pros.
Having fought out of St Teresa’s as an amateur, Treacy will remain with coach Mark Buckley and becomes part of a growing scene in Wicklow which also includes stablemates Regan Buckley and James Cahill.
By our count, Treacy becomes the 43rd boxer to turn pro in Ireland this year – although he and another five of these are still to debut.
Treacy intends to make his bow early in the new year as the Irish boxing resurgence continues.
