Interesting new role for Jamie Conlan

Jamie Conlan may have to make regular visits to MTK tailor Chris Suitor as he enters the business side of boxing.

The Belfast boxer has taken up a new role with Irish management outfit as their restructuring continues.

The 31 year old recent world title challenger been appointed as the company’s Professional Development Coordinator.

With over 130 fighters signed to the company, ‘The Mexican’ will play an integral part in establishing projects to support the professional growth and development of his fellow boxers.

The role will address structured and boxing-specific programmes such as body conditioning and training, performance analysis, health and nutrition, and continuous coaching and mentoring.

It comes two weeks after the Belfast boxer lost out in his IBF super flyweight world title bid against champion Jerwin Ancajas at the SSE Arena.

There has been no confirmation as of yet as to whether Conlan, who will be in New York this week to support his brother Michael will fight on or hang up the gloves.

Speaking about his new role Conlan said that “I am thrilled to be part of the ever growing MTK Global team and to contribute something of which I am very passionate about.”

“Boxers need all the professional help and support they can get to sustain and improve their craft. As a fighter myself, I know what are the specific needs of a boxer in order to grow and I am very willing to share my insights and experiences.”

Former Irish champion Matthew Macklin,who manages Conlan and founded Mack The Knife Global believes he has selected the right man for the role.

“I have known Jamie for a long time now and I believe he is the ideal man for this role,” added Macklin.

“His experience, professionalism and dedication to the sport are relentless and unwavering. He has the heart, mind and soul of a professional boxer. He is especially well placed to fully support our growing stable of fighters.”
