Carl Frampton rival links up with Frank Warren

One of Carl Frampton’s main rivals has linked up with Frank Warren, making a showdown between the pair all the more likely.

IBF featherweight champion Lee Selby will co-headline a Queensberry Boxing show, live on BT Sport, at the CopperBox Arena in London on Saturday December 9th.

Selby [25(9)-1(0)] will top the bill against a to-be-confirmed opponent alongside IBF super middleweight champ James DeGale

With the Welshman, who like Frampton is also advised by U.S. mogul Al Haymon, now working with Warren, the likelihood of a bout with ‘The Jackal’ has increased.

Frampton [23(14)-1(0)] confirmed Warren as his new promoter last month following his split from the McGuigan family.

The Belfast boxer had previously been in talks with Selby for a fight during the Summer, but the clash would never materialise.

Frampton himself returns to the ring on Saturday November 18th at the SSE Odyssey Arena where, in his first fight since losing the WBA title in a rematch with Leo Santa Cruz, he will face Horacio Garcia

While the working relationship, which is not believed to be a long-term contract, between Selby and Warren is good news for Frampton, it is great news for Josh Warrington.

The Leeds featherweight won an IBF final eliminator against Dennis Ceylan at the weekend and is next in line for Selby, who will most likely make a mandatory defence in seven weeks time.

With the three main domestic featherweights now all working with Warren, it would seem likely that the veteran promoter will attempt to run a series of fights amongst them – which he has previously suggested, likening it to the Steve Collins-Chris-Eubank-Nigel Benn days.

Also featuring on the card on December 9th will be Daniel Dubois and Anthony Yarde.

For BT Sport viewers the card will lead into the massive Vasyl Lomachenko v Guillermo Rigondeaux WBO super featherweight title showdown – which features Belfast’s Mick Conlan on the undercard.
