Comeback clash cancelled for John Joe Nevin
John Joe Nevin [8(4)-0] will have to wait a little bit longer before he resumes his pro career.
The Mullingar super featherweight has not fought since August of last year, with that six rounder having been his only fight of 2016.
A pro three and a half years now, injury and problems outside the ring have restricted Nevin to just eight fights, and he will have to wait at least another week until number nine.
Nevin had hoped to kickstart his tumultuous pro career tomorrow night in London, however he has fallen afoul of the dreaded last-minute cancellation.
The 2012 Olympic silver medalist was due to box on a Steve Wraith Promotions bill at the Tolworth Recreational Centre,, but his scheduled six-rounder has been taken off the bill.
In a post to social media, a “disgusted” Nevin explained that his proposed opponent had been refused clearance to fight by the British Boxing Board of Control.
However, the 28 year old noted that he hopes to return to the ring in a refixed fight lined up for next week.
He said “show next week I could be on yet.”
“Hopefully be in soon, that’s pro boxing, things like this happen.”
