Carl Frampton reveals plan for next fight

Carl Frampton [23(14)-1(0)] has given his first interview since the announcement of his link-up with Mack The Knife Global.

It was confirmed yesterday that ‘The Jackal’ had taken on board the Irish management company in an advisory capacity. Frampton becomes the 27th Irish fighter on the MTK books.

Today the Belfast featherweight spoke to IFL TV at length about the move and a variety of other things. In the wide-ranging interview Frampton confirmed that he is to stay at featherweight for the foreseeable future, that he remains advised by Al Haymon, and refused to rule out a reunion with promoter Eddie Hearn.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of interview though was Frampton’s discussion of his next fight.

The Tiger’s Bay man, having not fought since losing to Leo Santa Cruz in January, wants to be out before the end of the year.

While the 30 year old had previously spoken of his desire to jump straight back into a big fight, he now feels that he will return in more of a tune-up fight – albeit still against a solid foe.

Frampton outlined how “I don’t know what’s going to happen with my next one. It’ll still need to be a name of some sort, I don’t want to be fighting mugs.”

“I want to get a fight though that gets me ready for one of the top quality names. I’m gelling in now with Jamie Moore.”

“It hasn’t been a great year for me so I’d like to finish the year with a win against someone, and then we’ll look for one of the big boys after that.”

In terms of the where, Frampton also noted that the fight might not necessarily be in his home city. The Ulsterman added that “I’d like to fight in Belfast before the year is out, but it doesn’t really matter where I fight this side of Christmas – as long they can, whoever I go with, deliver Windsor Park in the Summer.”
