Ciaran Healy looking to test Maccarinelli’s chin
By Jonny Stapleton
CIARAN Healy hopes to land the type of shot that served him so well against John Waldron and Brendan Fitzpatrick on Enzo Maccarinelli this Saturday night.
The Belfast 37 year old faces the former former EBU cruiserweight, World Boxing Union cruiserweight and WBO cruiserweight world champion in the Motor Point Arena this weekend hopping to upset the odds by stopping the Welsh star in same fashion he did his two domestic foes.
The Renaissance man took the fight at just three days notice but claims he is fit and certainly ready for action.
“I just heard yesterday about the fight when Dean Powell rang me. I didn’t need to be asked twice. There is not much happening work wise over here at present. I have always been ticking over so I am fit. I hear Enzo is around 12st 8 so hopefully I can land one his chin, keep away from his big punches and win.
The Welsh fighter is said to be using Saturday’s light heavyweight clash with the two weight Irish champion as a warm up for a Cruiserweight British title shot. However Healy claims if he wins he won’t be targeting Shane McPhilbin, but rather wants to regain his Irish title.
“At this stage I won’t be chasing the British title. I want to get the Irish title I never lost back.”
