The Iceman Keane McMahon looking to make another statement in second fight
Often when a fighter turns pro they declare their fan-friendly style, promise to entertain, and are too eager to please, leading to scrappy early fights and underperformance.
That’s not the case though for Dublin welterweight Keane McMahon [1(0)-0] who just oozes class.
On his debut on the ‘Celtic Clash 2: The Rising’ card back in May, McMahon effortlessly breezed past Poland’s Lukasz Kuc over four rounds with one of the performances of the night. The showing secured the inner-city youngster a contract with Boxing Ireland Promotions and he now finds himself on the ‘Celtic Clash 3: Building Champions’ show set for the National Stadium on Saturday September 9th.
The 23 year old plans to build on his impressive debut performance. Analysing his opening fight, McMahon told Irish-Boxing.com that “I am happy with how the debut went but I know I have so much more to give, but he was a tough opponent maybe looking back in hindsight I could have pushed for the stoppage a little bit more. But it will come with experience.”
McMahon has been handed a refreshing challenge for his second fight in Bulgarian Radoslav Mitev [9(2)-32(14)-1].
A game fighter who has previously upset Scottish champion Eddie Doyle and Ireland’s Michael Harvey, the Sofia scrapper cannot be underestimated. McMahon is up for the test and noted how “I’m happy with the opponent he has been in there with top Opposition like Tyrone Nurse and Phil Sutcliffe. I’ll be looking to make a real statement in the way I deal with him.”
Managed by David Murphy of Dublin Plumbing and Gas, who is also the event’s main sponsor, McMahon is promising more of the same next month. Indeed the old ‘if it ain’t broke’ mantra rings true.
‘The Iceman’ described how “I haven’t changed much to be honest just added little things. Me and my coaches Richard Fox and Terry Hamilton have been working on sitting down on punches a bit more so you will see a lot more power punches in this fight.”
“Fans can expect an educated performance and a big win for me. I will try and give them a bit of everything.”
Headlined by the Eric Donovan v Dai Davies BUI Celtic featherweight title fight, the ‘Celtic Clash 3: Building Champions’ card also features Anto Cacace, Stephen McAfee, Martin Quinn, Aiden Metcalfe, John Joyce, Dylan McDonagh, Colin O’Donovan, Chris Mullally, Michael Gallagher, Niall O’Connor, Gerard Whitehouse, Bernard Roe, and Carl McDonald.
Tickets for the show cost €30 (Balcony), €40 (Gallery), €60 (Ringside), €100 (VIP Premium), and €15 (Under-15s gallery – must be bought alongside an adult ticket) and are available to buy from Keane at 085 7414 788 or online at Ticketmaster.ie
