Tyrone McKenna secures big Belfast fight date

Belfast light welterweight Tyrone McKenna [13(5)-0-1] has had a fight date confirmed for one of the two big television cards in the Titanic City next month.

Sky Sports run a bill at the SSE Odyssey Arena on June 10th and BoxNation return to the Waterfront Hall on June 17th, with McKenna finally being confirmed this evening for the latter.

It will be the third successive big Belfast BoxNation bill for the Lenadoon southpaw.

‘The Mighty Celt’ has won and defended the BUI Celtic title in his past two fights, stopping previously undefeated Dubliner’s Sean Creagh and Jake Hanney in the fifth and sixth rounds respectively.

An opponent will be confirmed for McKenna, who is currently training in Marbella, in the near future.

Should McKenna’s management at MTK look to make it a hat-trick of all-Irish wins, the leading contenders would be Anto Upton or Darragh Foley, although both look unlikely. A BBBoC Celtic title challenge against current champ Jason Easton is another fight which may appeal.

Joining McKenna on the card next month will be Sean McGlinchey, Lewis Crocker, Jamie Conlan, Davey Oliver Joyce and Steven Ward, as well as rankings title fights for Paddy Barnes, Stephen Ormond, and Jono Carroll, against Silvio Oltneau, Craig Evans, and Johnny Quigley respectively.

Tickets for the ‘Battle of Belfast’ card on June 17th at the Waterfront Hall cost £30, £40, £60, and £150, and are available from the boxers involved or from HERE.
