Spike O’Sullivan “in the best shape of my life” ahead of tenth Stateside scrap

This weekend Spike O’Sullivan [24(16)-2(1)] competes in his tenth U.S. fight, and the Cork middleweight feels he is better than ever.

O’Sullivan fights at the Plainridge Casino in Plainville, Massachusetts tomorrow (Saturday 13th) night, and comes into the bout in serious shape.

Following a spell out in 2016 due to a perforated ear drum, O’Sullivan now fights for the second time in less than two months, with activity being key for the 32 year old

O’Sullivan told Irish-Boxing.com that “I am indeed feeling very sharp and in the best shape of my life the best is yet to come from me of that I am sure.”

“I love the team I have here [Boston]. They’re great people and the support I’m getting from the supporters here in the US is growing rapidly and that is a great feeling.”

Celtic Warriors Gym suffered a few losses recently through retirement and relocation, but has been bolstered with a number of new additions. For O’Sullivan especially there is some great sparring with the likes of upcoming Irish title challenger Luke Keeler and talented light middleweights Bernard Roe and Craig O’Brien.

O’Sullivan described how “there is a great buzz in the gym, all top lads.”

“Paschal [Collins, coach] doesn’t deal with anything less and, for me. it means lots of quality sparring with lovely lads things couldn’t be much better at the gym!”

The Leesider faces Chauncey Fields [4(2)-2(1)] over eight rounds, and it’s not envisioned that the American will pose to many problems.

“He’s getting knocked spark out on Saturday night,” commented O’Sullivan.

In terms of progression though, the bout is more of a keep-busy affair, and O’Sullivan feels he is close to a big fight.

“I believe so,” he stated. “his will take me to 25 and 2 and I’m confident I can land a big name soon and win.”
