Ray Moylette to move weight ahead of takeover

Ray Moylette [2(0)-0] is to make a move in weight as he continues his pro journey.

The Mayo star fought twice in March, weighing in at 148lbs and 142lbs, and will now move down to lightweight (135lbs) ahead of a flurry of fights over then next few weeks.

A light welter (141lbs) in the amateurs, the 27 year old fitness nut is looking now to build quickly at the lower weight.

Moylette fights twice in Boston (May 13th and May 20th), before an Irish homecoming on June 24th at the National Stadium, and is delighted with his level of activity since ditching the vest.

‘Sting Ray’ told Irish-Boxing.com that “it’s great to be kept busy. I have three fights in the next six weeks.”

“As I said from the start, I aim to fast track and take over.”

On the move in weight, Moylette explained that “I’m dropping down to lightweight for the next part of my journey.”

“I believe with my strength and ruthless aggression it won’t be long before I make a name for myself.

“The two fights in Boston are four round fights as I move down in weight I want to see my progress being carried with me.”

“It’s only going to improve from here no doubt then I make the step up in Dublin June 24th to six rounds.”

Also featuring in the Irish lightweight division at present are Moylette’s Celtic Warriors gym-mate Stephen Ormond, Paul Hyland Jr, Joe Fitzpatrick, Gearoid Clancy, and upcoming debutant Liam Gaynor.

Moylette is joined by Spike O’Sullivan this weekend for his fight at the Plainridge Casino, before fighting alongside Bernard Roe and Michael McLaughlin Owen at the Melrose Memorial Hall next week.

His Irish homecoming on the Red Corner ‘For Honour & Pride’ card at the National Stadium also features Craig O’Brien, Chris Blaney, Victor Rabeii, Thomas Finnegan, and Irish title fights between Luke Keeler and Darren Cruise at middleweight and Stevie Collins and Paddy McDonagh at light heavyweight.

Tickets for this show cost €40 and €60 and are available from the boxers involved.
