“Everything happens for a reason” for Pádraig McCrory ahead of massive debut date

Things have a funny way of working out in boxing.

That is definitely the case for Pádraig ‘Pody’ McCrory, who learnt last week that he will make his professional debut on the big Sky Sports bill in Belfast on June 10th.

The Belfast super middle, a former top amateur, signed with Kieran Farrell at the start of the year, however missed Farrell’s inaugural Belfast show last month due to his own wedding and honeymoon

McCrory was in attendance for the ‘A New Era’ bill at The Devenish Complex and explained that it has spurred him on ahead of his own debut

“I was helping Kieran out doing the front door for him, seeing the lads I was training with fighting made me wish it was me and it started a fire in me to really get focused,” he told Irish-Boxing.com.

“I would have been on that show only I got married and was on honeymoon, but things have worked out and now I’m fighting on a Matchroom card! Everything happens for a reason.”

“I can’t wait to show what I have on such a big stage.”

While the fight date was in the pipeline, McCrory admits that he is still pinching himself with the news.

McCrory laughed at how “I knew he [Farrell] was trying his best – but I just didn’t think I was going to happen, even when he told me it was on I had doubts until it was officially announced!”

“It’s a great opportunity on such a massive show, all thanks to Kieran Farrell.”

A massive stage on which to debut has certainly got McCrory pulling out all the stops in training. The Immanuel Boxing Academy man, trained by Ray Ginley and Dee Walsh, describrd how “the scale of it is only pushing me on in training to be the best me I possibly can!”

“Training has never been better, you would think these guys [Ginley and Walsh] were in boxing 40 years. Both are constantly watching and studying boxing. I think they get a better buzz out of it now than when they actually fought!”

“The team is building with some great talent, watch us grow.”

A debut date on such a high-profile show means that the 28 year old is a popular man, and he noted how “my phone’s been on fire with good luck messages and ticket request.”

“I’m feeling loved and very much appreciated it. My parents, wife, and inlaws are so proud of me which makes things one million times better.”

“My sponsors have been amazing too – JDM Group, McGuigans Promotions, and one more coming on board soon. It’s not possible without them.”

Joining McCrory on the Ryan Burnett v Lee Haskins undercard are Feargal McCrory, Matt Wilton, Tyrone McCullagh, Paul Hyland Jr, James Tennyson, Sean Magee, and Paddy Gallagher.

Tickets for ‘Belfast Boy’ on June 10th at the SSE Odyssey Arena cost £30, £40, £60, £100, and £150 (VIP), and can be bought from the boxers involved or HERE.
