SECOND Irish title fight announced for next Red Corner show

Dublin promotional newcomers Red Corner have announced a second Irish title fight for their upcoming show.

This evening it has been confirmed that Dubliner Stevie Collins Jr [10(4)-0-1] will box Mullingar’s Paddy McDonagh [10(0)-2(0)] for the vacant Irish light heavyweight title on the ‘For Honour & Pride’ card at the National Stadium on Saturday June 24th.

Southpaw McDonagh was the last man to hold the belt, defeating John Waldron on points paddy mcdonaghin Liverpool back in January 2012.

Since then the 26 year old Westmeath boxer has won two and lost two, last fighting almost two years ago. Under promoter Assassin Boxing, the younger of the McDonagh brothers is looking to get back in the mix, starting this Summer.

Celtic Warriors Gym man Collins scored a career-best steve collins jrwin over Pablo Sosa on the previous Red Corner card in February.

Now title eligible, the 27 year old will look to continue stepping up through the ranks at the same venue.

Promoter Red Corner said that “this has the makings of a fight that will be talked about for years to come.”

“Paddy is a former champion looking to regain his crown while Stevie is a man on a mission looking to bulldoze whoever gets in the way of him winning his first Irish title.”

A fight that has been rumoured for weeks, the match-up was suggested in the aftermath of the last Red Corner show.

This second title clash joins the middleweight belt battle between Luke Keeler and Darren Cruise on the card at the home of Irish boxing. Also announced for the Dublin bill are Tallaght super middleweight Thomas Finnegan, inner-city light middleweight Craig O’Brien, and debutant Victor Rabei.
