Stephen Quinn signs Panama fight deal

STEPHEN Quinn has signed a promotional deal that will see him fight in Panama for the next four years.
Quinn literally followed in his fathers footsteps when making his debut against Delroy Spencer, the fighter his last fought before he retired, in Belfast last September, but will now leave his native city to fight abroad.
The teenager has signed a four year pro contract and has been guaranteed three fights a year.
The exotic connection comes via Belfasts resident Panamanian Bernardo Checa and if Quinn is successful Panama could become an option for more budding Irish fighters, albeit a strange one.
The Belfast super bantamweight is certainly excited about the unusual link up and believes his time spent aboard could see his a rise in his boxing stock.
Speaking to www.irish-boxing.com Quinn explained how the link up came about.
“Bernardo was asking me about it months ago. He asked if i would be interested immediately said yes, and then not so long ago he rang me asking if i was still interested, and here we are.”
“Its a four year contract, minimum 3 fights a year, but I should get a lot more than that,” he added before expressing his excitement.
“I cant wait! I will miss my girlfriend, family and friends, but the way boxing is over here its something i need to do. I expect to move up the ranks, and all being well go onto big things. I’ll be living there, but I will be home every 6 months or so for a few weeks then back out. I think it will do me wonders, its an opportunity of a lifetime. If I do well then I don’t see why it wouldn’t start a trend.”
