Stephen Ormond – “It was just one of those shots – I know all about them”

Stephen Ormond [24(13)-3(1)] scored a stunning bodyshot stoppage last night in Belfast, and the Dublin lightweight was almost cursing himself afterwards for the Micky Ward-esque finish

The Rock put away Norwin Gallo inside the first minute of their fight at the Devenish Complex on the inaugural Ginley Promotions bill, landing a rapid rib-crunching double left-hook to the body that brought a halt ot the contest.

Following the quick knockout Ormond said that “I’m delighted to win obviously, but I was going mad for more rounds. It was like going to stay there and it was great, so I went for a few bodyshots and it was different. He’s got a hard head, so he would have been there for a while if I had gone to the head, but I just saw the bodyshot.”

“It was just one of those shots wasn’t it? I know all about them,” he added in reference to his stoppage loss to Zoltan Szabo last October.

Formerly a frequently inactive boxer, Ormond’s levels of action have jumped up since joining MTK. The 33 year old believes that this activity will culminate with a world title shot later in the year.

The Clondalkin fighter outlined that “I’m hoping to get out again now soon. I want to say thanks to MTK, they’re doing a great job with me, keeping me busy. I’ve been constantly going, I’ve been sparring Frankie Gavin, and I’m going to go next week to spar Terry Flanagan.”

“I want the WBO, I’d fight for any belt, but I’m definitely going to fight for a world title this year. MTK were telling me they were going to set it up, and I believe they will.”
