Scouse Marcos Maidana promising excitement when he takes on Feargal McCrory
Jay Carney [4(3)-1(0)-2] is looking forward to putting on a fan-friendly fight when he comes to Belfast on April 22nd.
The Liverpudlian super featherweight fights Feargal McCrory [4(1)-0] in a top-of-the-bill clash at the Devenish Complex on the first Kieran Farrell Promotions card, ‘A New Era.’
Carney is promoted by Farrell, unlike McCrory, and certainly isn’t coming to lose against the unbeaten Tyrone fighter.
Describing what Irish fans can expect on April 22nd, ‘Bam Bam’ explained how “Kieran likes to call me the Scouse Marcos Maidana!”
“A lot of people will say I am a fighter rather than a boxer but I believe I am a box-fighter. Under my trainer Scottie Hamilton, who I’ve been with a year now, I think I have added a lot of depth to my game.”
Before McCrory however, Carney faces a fight with local ticket-seller Carl Chadwick in Hull next weekend on the big Sky Sports bill. He noted how “things are going really well with Kieran, I can’t ask for much more from him he has delivered for me exactly the type of fights I want.”
When he does finally share the ring with Fearless Feargal in nine weeks time, 30 year old Carney is expecting an entertaining eight rounds. Indeed it will be the first time either fighter will be scheduled for more than four, and Carney outlined how he is “very excited about this title fight and the step up to eight rounds. The longer distance will definitely benefit me, and a fight with Feargal over eight rounds will be fan friendly and exciting.”
“I have seen little bits of Feargal, I haven’t watched too much of him yet because I’m boxing next week. Once that is out of the way I will have my full focus on him. I know he is from Breen’s Gym and I have Irish boxing friends who tell me about him too”
“I do know that he is a very talented boxer who has a lot of ambition and belief and I think our styles will gel well for a great fight.”

Undercard support on the night will come from Daniel McShane, Mathew Fitzsimons, Joe Hillerby, Sean Magee, and a fight between Ger Healy and Tommy Carter
