Ireland’s newest pro – “I plan on making statements from the start”

Waterford welterweight Dylan Moran has this week become the newest addition to the always-growing Irish pro scene.

An unfamiliar name to some perhaps, Moran enters the paid game off the back of a hugely successful kickboxing career where he won seven Irish titles and three World titles. However, the Déise fighter doesn’t come in to boxing blind.

22 next month, Moran spoke to Irish-Boxing.com and explained how “I started off with amateur boxing, I boxed from Boy 1 up until I was 18 or 19. I won six county titles, six Munster titles, and got to the all-Irelands every year. I’ve also boxed in America and won the Haringey Box Cup.”

The Dungarvan boxer would leave the sport however and he described how “some controversial decisions and not being picked for trips just pushed me away from amateur boxing. I was then introduced to kickboxing. Overall I’ve won seven Irish titles, a four nations, European, and three senior world titles.”

Now Moran is back in the sweet science, looking to make a career for himself and has linked up with an old friend. The Munster boxer has signed with Kieran Farrell‘s growing stable in Manchester and will debut next year in England, with a fight date in Ireland also eyed.

Outlining how the link-up materialised, Moran recalled how “while I was boxing underage I was over and back to England training with Bobby Rimmer, who was Kieran’s coach at the time, and became friends with Kieran. We both went our separate ways for a few years and now we’ve ended up back working together.”

Moran is promising entertainment when he does step back in the ring, and admits that “I love to go forward, all my fights are exciting – no standing back.”
