2006: Bray’s Katie Taylor won her first of five World Championships golds in New Delhi, India. The Wicklow woman Taylor began by forcing a stoppage on old American rival Carolina Barry under the old outclassing rule, before doing the same to Finland’s current WBC super featherweight champion Eva Wahlstrom, and Romanian Florina Popa. In the semi finals Taylor would outpoint Russian Tatyana Chalaya (23:6) to book her place in the final where she overcame Argentina’s current WBC light welterweight champion Anabella Farias (31:14).

1938: Derry legend Spider Jim Kelly outpointed Londoner Benny Caplan over fifteen rounds at the Kings Hall in Belfast to win the vacant British and Commonwealth featherweight title.

1938: On the undercard at the Kings Hall there was a Belfast derby for the BBBoC Northern Irish flyweight title, with Tommy Stewart stopping Jim McStavick in the tenth round.

1957: Another Belfast derby, this time for the BBBoC lightweight title, took place nineteen years later at the same venue, with Peter Sharpe knocking out John McNally in the eighth round.
