Mexican opponent announced for Marco McCullough
Marco McCullough [15(9)-3(2)]has secured a potentially dangerous replacement opponent for his fight on the Belfast Boxnation show next weekend.
The Belfast featherweight was due to face Michael Roberts Jr [18(1)-0-1] at the Titanic Exhibition Centre on November 5th but the unbeaten Scot has recently withdrawn due to a virus.
In his place, Mexican Luis Lugo [17(13)-5(3)-1] has stepped up and it has been announced that the bout will take place over twelve rounds for the WBO Inter-Continental title.
From the coastal city of Los Mochis, the heavy-hitting Lugo will be stepping up from super bantamweight for the clash. A graduate of the dog-eat-dog Mexican scene, he seemingly turned pro at the tender age of 13 back in 2009. The Mexican’s most notable fight came in June 2012 when he was stopped in the fifth by the World title-chasing Rey Vargas.
The Mexican also carries the nickname of ‘Cobrita,’ a ring moniker that may strike fear into Belfast boxing fans following Carl Frampton’s almost-disastrous fight with Alejandro ‘Cobrita’ Gonzalez in El Paso last year.
