Jamie Cox comeback opponent confirmed
Jamie Cox [20(12)-0] fights for the first time in almost a year this Saturday in Bolton.
The Swindon-Donegal super middleweight features on the Boxnation-aired VIP Promotions show at the Bolton Whites Hotel and will face Argentinian opposition on his return to the ring.
Martin Fidel Rios [20(11)-9(2)-3] will be the man in the opposite corner this weekend for the vacant WBO Inter-Continental title fight.
The 24 year old South American will provide a surprisingly strong comeback foe for Cox – who last fought in November 2015 at the National Stadium in Dublin, knocking out Ferenc Albert inside a round.
Rios comes into the bout on the back of a three-fight win streak and recently held the WBC and IBF Latino belts. El Terrible gave the World title-chasing Jorge Sebastian Heiland a scare earlier this year, knocking down the Matt Macklin defeator in the eight en-route to a close points loss (94-95, 93-96, 92½-97½).
On his only previous visit to Britain, Rios lost widely to Jimmy Kelly (89-99 87-100 89-98).
This weekend’s card was due to be headlined by the British cruiserweight title final eliminator between Belfast’s Tommy McCarthy and Matty Askin, but the clash has since been postponed until Saturday November 19th at the Victoria Warehouse due to a slight shoulder injury suffered by McCarthy.
