Winger to Welter – James McClean shows off boxing skills in sparring session
Fresh from scoring two goals for Ireland against Moldova, James McClean returned home to his native Derry for a spot of sparring.
The West Brom winger visited Oakleaf Boxing Club for a workout which included some sparring with club man Conor McBride.
While McBride may have being taking it slightly easy on the Premier League footballer, McClean certainly showed a degree of pugilistic talent and would make a decent welterweight should he ever choose to swap his football boots for boxing gloves
Fighters who have honed their trade in the Brandywell gym include Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Sean McGlinchey and Commonwealth Youth Games silver medalist and upcoming World Youth Championships participant Brett McGinty.
