Strong opponent named for Cummings fight next month

An opponent has been named for Conrad Cummings‘s [10(4)-0-1] appearance on the George Groves v Eduard Gutknecht undercard next month in London.

The Tyrone middleweight will face German Ronny Mittag [28(14)-2(0)] on the card at the Wembley Arena on Friday November 18th.

While the German 28 year old’s record is quite inflated, he still presents a rather tough test for Cummings in just his twelfth fight.

Mittag was actually due to box in Dublin last Summer against Tommy Langford on the MGM ‘New Beginning’ show but was a late withdrawal.

The fight next month will be for the lightly-regarded IBF Inter-Continental trinket, however a win should secure 25 year old Cummings a place in the organisation’s Top 15.

The belt was last held by Derry’s Eamonn O’Kane, helping maneuver himself into position to face Tureano Johnson in an IBF final eliminator last October. Since then, Matthew Macklin was slated to scrap for the strap against Brian Rose, but the belt remained vacant due to Macklin rehydrating over 10lbs for the fight-morning weigh-in.

Cummings’s Cyclone and McGuigan’s Gym team-mate Carl Frampton also held the super bantamweight equivalent of the belt.
