Fury reportedly tests positive for cocaine – set to be stripped of titles

Heavyweight World champion Tyson Fury looks set to be stripped of his titles due to reportedly failing a drugs test for recreational narcotic cocaine.

ESPN Boxing journalist Dan Rafael has this afternoon reported that Fury failed a Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) random urine test on September 22nd, one day before his withdrawal from his refixed rematch with Wladimir Klitschko on October 29th.

The unbeaten former Irish champ had sensationally claimed the unified heavyweight crown last November with a shock win over Klitschko in Duesseldorf but it has been far from plain sailing since.

Fury has twice seen his rematch with Klitschko in Manchester postponed, firstly due to a badly sprained ankle and then due to depression. The Manchester-born 28 year old is likely to be stripped of his remaining WBA and WBO titles (along with the minor IBO title). Fury had already been stripped of his IBF title following his inability to face his mandatory challenger Vyacheslav Glazkov due to a rematch clause with Klitschko.

The IBF title was subsequently won by Charles Martin, and then later Anthony Joshua. London 2012 gold medalist Joshua now may look to unify his red belt with one of the seemingly soon-to-be-stripped belts of Fury in a proposed clash with Klitschko.

Team Fury have yet to respond to today’s revelations.
