Change of opponent for JJ Metcalf who now faces an Olympian
JJ Metcalf [13(6)-0] has seen a change of opponent for his headline appearance on the MGM Liverpool ‘Genesis’ card at the Greenbank Sports Academy on Friday October 7th. Nevertheless, the new opponent still represents a step up in quality for the Liverpool-born light middleweight.
The son of the ‘Shamrock Express’ Shea Neary was due to take on former Commonwealth champion and British and European title challenger Bradley Pryce, but the Welshman has withdrawn following his somewhat surprise third round stoppage win over Justin Menzie last weekend. ‘Sugar Sweet’ will now rematch the formerly unbeaten prospect in November instead of facing ‘Kid Shamrock’ in two weeks time.
Pryce’s place will now be taken by perhaps an even more dangerous fighter. 28 year old Metcalf, who has Irish title ambitions, will now face Serge Ambomo [5(2)-0]. The Sheffield-based Cameroonian represented his country at the 2012 Olympics before absconding from the Athlete’s Village following his opening round defeat and staying in Britain.
Also appearing on the card in Liverpool will be Dublin’s Phil Sutcliffe Jr making his MGM debut, Luke Keeler-defeater Tom Doran, Brandon Daord, Ryan Moorhead, John Quigley, Tommy Carus, Gerard Carroll, and debutant Sam Maxwell.
