Team Fury negotiating with Hearn for Hughie v Joshua fight next
Hughie Fury‘s trainer and father Peter has claimed that he has received an approach from Eddie Hearn asking if the 22 year old will face IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.
Fury also states that his son, who has recently made his long-awaited recovery from Acne Conglobata will take the fight – should the offer be acceptable.
2012 Olympic gold medalist Joshua defends his belt at the Manchester Arena on November 26th and has yet to confirm an opponent, while Fury has seen his step-up bout versus Andy Ruiz Jr on the Fury-Klitschko undercard at the same venue on October 29th shelved. Ruiz has cited managerial issues as the reason for his withdrawal but this may have paved the way for a surprise title shot for Fury who is currently ranked #13 with the IBF.
Peter Fury told BaylorIC TV that “when Andy Ruiz pulled out, Eddie Hearn contacted me through e-mail, and he offered me the fight with AJ for the 26th of November.”
“I told him we’ll speak, we’re interested. We have spoken and I told him one hundred percent that we would take that fight.”
“We’re waiting for Eddie to get back in touch with Mick Hennessy, our team and let us know what the money is, because we’ll take the fight. He knows that we’ll take the fight.”
“So at the moment it’s up to them whether they want the fight or not because as far as Hughie’s concerned, he will take that fight. If the money’s right, that fight can happen.”
Hearn and Matchroom have yet to comment on Fury’s revelation, but it is thought that the fight could be seen by Joshua’s team as a perfect lead-in to a potential Wembley Stadium clash with Tyson Fury next Summer.
For Team Fury, the bout would have added significance due to Joshua’s current possession of the IBF title, which was stripped from Tyson due to his contractual obligation to rematch Wladimir Klitschko – therefore leaving him unable to defend against mandatory challenger Vyacheslav Glazkov.
