Frampton and The Jackal Army helped Barnes make pro decision

He may not admit it to his face, but Paddy Barnes claims Carl Frampton has proved something of an inspiration.

Barnes, who looks set to punch for pay for the first time on November 5th in Belfast, has always been a massive supporter and advocate of the two weight World title challengers talent and capabilities. Indeed, despite the fact that the pair jest and verbal spar, as well as Frampton winning three of their four underage bouts, Barnes claims that witnessing his close friend succeed made him want to turn over.

The 29 year old revealed that the public adoration Frampton receives and the atmosphere created at his fights is a major motivator.

The double Olympic bronze medalist told RTÉ 2FM’s Game On that “he’s one of the reasons I want to go professional.”

“Watching him fight in the Odyssey Arena, in front of thousands of fans, it’s just unbelievable.”

“I’d actually pay money to fight there.”

“You have Carl Frampton fighting in front of 9,000 fans at the Odyssey Arena, unbelievable, then you have Paddy Barnes fighting in the Europeans in front of 50 people.”
